Both the Inter-School/Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship (IS/IVCF) and Scripture Union (SU) began in England. IS/IVCF began with and has maintained its emphasis as a student ministry, while SU commenced with the vision of winning children for Christ but later moved to developing a series of planned Bible Reading Guides.
IS/IVCF was introduced to Jamaica in 1948 when Canadian staff worker Cathy Nicoll established groups at the University of the West Indies, Mona, and at Wolmer’s Schools, Kingston.
SU began its work in Jamaica in 1910 out of visits made by William Copeland from England. The first SU Committee was established in 1954. After years of effective ministry in Jamaica and many other Caribbean territories, in 1980 IS/IVCF and SU merged and thereafter became known as Students Christian Fellowship and Scripture Union (SCFSU).
Since 2006, the movement trades as ISCF Jamaica for simplicity and ease of recall by its stakeholders.
SCFSU is the largest student-led organization in the island of Jamaica. It has made significant strides in leadership development, project management and financial management.
